Industrial Visit to 110/33 KV Gas Insulated Sub-Station at Verna

A group of 25 students from the 5th Semester Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Agnel Polytechnic, Verna, undertook an educational visit to the 110/33 kV Gas Insulated Sub-Station (GIS) at Verna Industrial Estate on 23rd September 2026. The students were accompanied by Mr. Neofito Rodrigues and Mrs. Vandana Fondekar.

The visit provided the students with an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the operation and functioning of a modern electrical sub-station. During the visit, Mr. Mario Mascarenhas, Assistant Engineer, introduced the students to the various components and systems of the newly commissioned 110/33 kV Gas Insulated Sub-Station.

The students were also briefed on the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the sub-station through the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. The interaction enabled them to understand the practical application of concepts related to electrical power systems, sub-station equipment, protection, control, and monitoring.

The industrial visit proved to be an informative and enriching learning experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It enhanced the students’ understanding of modern sub-station technology and provided valuable insights into the operation and maintenance of electrical power infrastructure.
